WEP wireless networking doesn't work
This is by design! The wireless networking driver supplied with the Eee PCs is designed to work in open environments and secure wireless networking environments. The WEP security protocol was a good idea when wireless networking first started but these days it can be circumvented in minutes.
An open environment is one that is a public "WiFi" access point. Two good examples are McDonald's and Starbucks. Both companies have committed to allowing anybody to reach the Internet from their dining areas but to do that, no security has been implemented on their network.
Secure networks now use WPA or WPA2. In addition, these protocols allow two different types of encryption: TKIP and AES. Of the two, vulnerabilities have been uncovered in AES and exploits have been found that allow a malicious intruder to use the protocol to monitor private traffic on the network. When possible configure your access point to use WPA with TKIP. Your 1005HA will work with it out of the box with no special configuration required.

When trying to use POP3 to access the server you get the error "Command is not valid in this state"
If you are using the server for only internal SMTP mail delivery and you have a POP3 connector to an external host that the rest of the world uses as your mail server. This solution may be what you need:
Launch the Exchange Management Shell
Execute "Get-PopSettings"
Verify LoginType is SecureLogin
Change it to plain text by executing "Set-PopSettings -LoginType PlainTextLogin"
Restart the POP3 service to enable the change.
After I installed it, my Intel DZ68ZV mother board beeps twice, pauses, and beeps twice again.
The Intel mother board will need to be at version 2022 of the BIOS or later. In my case it was successful using BIOS version 2067. For help on upgrading the BIOS, go to the website http://www.intel.com/support .
Touch Pad won't respond to right button taps.
The Synaptics touch pad on dv6 and dv7 computers uses both taps and actual recessed buttons. Tapping will only perform left-clicks, drags, and the other nifty features other than right-clicks.
To get it to respond to right-clicks, push gently downward where you were tyring to get the right button taps to take place. If the mouse is set to right-handed, press where the right button would be. If the mouse is set to left-handed, press where the left button would be.
When I insert the disk, nothing happens
Go to Start->My computer. Look for a file call a.exe. Right-click it and choose open or double-click the file. This will start the setup program to allow you to install it on your computer.
In Windows 7 (64-bit), switching between forms and diagnostics tabs results in the form, state, and description areas becoming empty on the left side of the window.
This is a conflict between Lacerte 2009 (TY2009) and the Biometric Authentication Service by Digital Persona Inc. Disabling the Biometric Authentication Service will resolve the problem.
The screen is inverted when the game is launched.
This is known to happen on Intel motherboards using the integrated video driver. First, upgrade your video driver. If that doesn't correct the problem, take a look at the graphics properties. On the more recent motherboards, there is an option to enable rotation. Disable this and save the settings. Once done, the game will launch correctly.
"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook.
This problem is caused by an error in one of the data files (either OST or PST).
Tools -> Account
Data Files folder tab
Note the paths and file names.
Start-> run ; cmd
cd "\program files\Microsoft Outlook"
cd OfficeXX where XX is the version of office (12, 13, 14, etc)
For each of the PST files noted in step 3, run scanpst.
Enter the path and file name.
If prompted to fix the file, always backup the file before letting it repair the file.

Drive Over Temp - XXX
This indicates the drive has exceeded its maximum operating temperature. When exposed to excessive temperatures, the platters and other internal components can become irrevocably damaged. If your drive is reported as exceeding the maximum temperature, immediately backup your data and seek the advice of a professional for migrating to a new hard disk so your existing Windows operating system, programs, and data will not be lost.
We can help you with this as well as DriveSavers. In any case, seek the help of a professional.
"inaccessible_boot_device" with error code 0x0000007B
Get thee to a disk recovery professional! Asking "my cousin's husband's friend" to fix the problem can result in a catastrophic loss of data. While there are several ways to fix the problem, the recommended solution by Microsoft consists of starting up from the same disk that has the problem and running the last known good configuration. Because there are executables actively using the partition that will be repaired, the possibility exists that additional damage will be incurred. The best way to fix this problem is to use the repair console. If you don't know what this is, stop and obtain assistance somebody who does.
With most home systems, this problem can be fixed by a professional very quickly. For systems utilizing RAID software, this problem is substantially more difficult to solve and is usually beyond the capabilities of most people.
Why did I get this error?
Corrupted partition journal file
Corrupted partition log file
Corrupted partition tables
Cache failure on the disk drive
Defective block(s) on the disk caused one of the top three reasons to occur
If you can get to the recovery console, always use the /r option to fix this error. If files are lost or bad blocks are found, you should seek the advice of a professional for migrating to a new hard disk so your existing Windows operating system, programs, and data will not be lost. We recommend DriveSavers (see the banner at the top of the page).
If you have a tool such as seatools, always scan the disk for errors after this error. If errors are found, you should seek the advice of a professional for migrating to a new hard disk so your existing Windows operating system, programs, and data will not be lost.
If you are able to get the drive operating again, immediately backup your data. If you don't have a backup unit, there are many units to choose from on the market today. Try to find one that backs up your files, creates an image backup of the entire disk, and provides a recovery cd-rom in the event you need to recover to a new disk.

Stop with error code 0xc0000218
One of the registry hives is corrupted. You will need to restore them manually to get Windows to start. Once you get Windows running, you will need to revert to an earlier restore point. This problem can be tricky if you cannot get your system to stop on the blue screen to get the error code. For this error, Windows will create a dump file whose name is probably something like DUMP<4 digits>.tmp. Dumpchk will provide a healthy amount of drivel for your inner geek to peruse but the key finding is the error code above.
Get to a real IT professional if you don't know the answers to any of the following questions:
Where are my restore points kept?
How do I know which restore point do I apply?
How do I manually restore my system to a registry version from a restore point?
How do I know if I have bad blocks on my disk?
If you don't know what you are doing, you can irrevocably damage Windows and have to reinstall. The good news is this error means Windows won't boot but your data should be okay if there are no underlying disk drive problems.
The two most common causes of this problem are a loss of power while the registry is being updated (ie when the system tells you I'll shutdown automatically when I'm done applying updates but you turn it off) or an underlying disk problem. If you have bad blocks on the disk and cannot get the system to function, we recommend contacting DriveSavers (see the banner at the top).

If you are not using a RAID volume, boot from a Windows XP installation disk (upgrade or full edition only, NOT the OEM install "for new computers only") and skip the RAID adapter steps below.
If you are using a RAID volume, boot from a Windows XP installation disk (upgrade or full edition only, NOT the OEM install "for new computers only") and press f6 when prompted "Press f6 to load RAID or system drivers". When you a prompted to load additional drivers, press S, insert the floppy driver disk, press enter, select the driver for your motherboard from the list, and press enter. When you return to the drivers screen, you can click enter to continue. One strategy is to load several drivers when you are not sure which one you need.
The installer will load and eventually ask if you want to update an existing Windows installation or run the repair console. Choose the repair console. You will need to enter the password for the Windows installation. When you reach the repair prompt, enter disk part. Enter list volume to find the right volume. Enter select volume X where X is the number of the volume you want to extend (usually 0 or 1). Enter the command extend. This command with no parameters will extend the selected volume to use whatever contiguous space is available. Enter exit. Enter exit again and your workstation should restart.

If you are using a Symantec antivirus product. Launch it and look through the administrative settings for the "detect and prevent tampering" setting. During a System Restore to a prior point in time, Windows reviews the snapshot details. The first thing it does is try to restore the registry files. As a safeguard, Norton detects this fundamental change and prevents it. System Restore immediately jumps to the end of its process and restarts. Your two clues are the visual one where System Restore jumps from being 15% done to 100% done. The second clue is it takes less than 15 seconds to run instead of a couple of minutes.
Symantec has documented this in their knowledgebase. Search for "tamper protection" and "system restore". While we have experienced this with the Symantec products, we believe this could be the case with nearly all antivirus products and their tamper protection. It's not a bad feature, it is just a safeguard we have to work around.
To work around this problem, turn off tamper protection in the antivirus product. Then go to start->accessories->system tools->system restore, select your earlier restore point, and restore to it. After you have successfully completed the system restore point restoration, immediately reenable the tamper protection to keep your protective software safe.
